A player is allowed precisely 14 clubs in a golf bag.
This 14 club rule is stated by both the R&A (The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews) and the USGA (United States Golf Association). It’s obviously then up to the individual which clubs make up the 14 but below outlines what we would consider and the most standard and practical 14 club.
Step 1. First in the bag are your Wedges (usually 4 in total) – These go at the base of your bag

Step 2. Second are your irons from 4 to 5 to 6 – these in the middle section to the left hand side of the bag (pending on how you address the bag)

Stage 3. Third are your irons from 7 to 8 to 9 – these go to the right of the middle section so all the main irons are together

Stage 4. Next are the fairway woods and your driver – these go into to top section

Stage 5. Finally your putter – this sits with the woods at the top of the bag
