This 9 Hole Purpose built golf course in Wakefield has stunning views
This course was opened in May of 2006, consisting of six par fours and three par threes. Each holes is defined by semi mature trees and all offer a real challenge. The golf to build across a hill with 5 of the holes taking advantage of this feature. The longest hole #4 is a fantastic example where you are playing across the entire length of the course, finishing with a blind downhill green which is on 3 tiers.
All the holes are relatively straight the the fairways so beware if you have a slice as you will find yourself taking your medicine and chipping back over to your hole, currently (Nov 2023) the club shop is cash only and the nearest cash point is about 7 minute driveaway so remember to bring enough money to play and for the cold snacks.
Just a 5 minute drive from M1 at J38 / J39
The course is only 10 minutes from Wakefield and Barnsley centres, and 15 minutes from Leeds or Huddersfield. There is ample parking at the course and there is also a lodge and bar onsite for users to stay and play overnight.
A hole to remember
Hole #3 aptly called ‘Oak For The Best’ is a par 3 163 hole with a stroke index of 6. A pretty straight forward hole but the tricky part of this hole is the 50 year old oak tree blocking a direct route to the green.

The green is achievable with a low stinger but accuracy is key – the hole is downhill so factor in playing it short and rolling onto the green. The safer option is to aim to the right of the green, stay away from the left hand side as there is a huge water hazard.

There is an ample green to aim for but beware there is a hidden bunker the to back left.

Midgley Lodge Motel & Golf Course Reviews
Thank you, kindest, Keith.
Not a bad little course, open to all.
Some decent holes and the views around are nice.
Tees are OK but need some love, greens were not very good today and in need of a bit of repairs the weather hasn't been that bad in my opinion but there's clay all over them and very boggy, but would love to see them fully upto scratch because they're well laid out.
Fairways are in very good condition and quite open and the rough is forgiving.
Bunkers are well placed but thankfully I never found one today.
It's a 9 hole course which is more expensive than my normal 18 hole in crookhill but it's definitely a nice little course.
Been a few times and aside from normally getting wedged between slow players in front and fast behind, today was much better nice easy pace kept by all.
I like it.
Staff are friendly, little shop on way to first tee has some bits and bobs in.
Has trolleys available to rent.
Yeah was a pleasant day today.
1st is a nice opening hole and 7th is class.
I have been playing at this corse for years but will avoid from now on
The course is well laid out. The fairways are well cut, the greens are very well manicured and run true. The course is a tribute to the green keeper and staff.
The shop where fees are paid can sell soft drinks but the bar is closed.
Well worth a visit. I enjoyed mine.
